Communicating effectively in a crisis
with Allison Markin of All She Wrote
A crisis can hit your business any time, from a natural disaster to a simple power outage to managing false online information. Your first response sets the tone – will it be effective and empathetic, or reactionary and the wrong response? Having a crisis communications plan that you can quickly pull off a shelf and immediately implement can not only help the community in an emergency, but also help protect the reputation of your business. Learn how to create a simple plan and checklist to guide you through gathering information, identifying a spokesperson, writing key messages, and selecting the right communications channels…even if the power is out. Bonus: a short review of the role a public information officer plays in an official Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).
FIRE, FLOOD – Bad for Business!
with Fire Chief Watkinson and Deputy Fire Chief Forster of the Penticton Fire Department

Attendees will gain a solid understanding of what Business owners should plan for in the event of a fire in their business.  Proper insurance needs, post fire investigation and how to work with your insurance provider, fire investigation outcomes, how fire travels through your business, and how to armor your business against fire.  The participants will actively engage in a live fire demonstration, so they can take back information on how to prepare their businesses before a fire occurs.
